MY DOG IS OVERWEIGHT!
Why is my dog over weight?
l feed as per the packets guide lines.
What factors are contributing to my dog being overweight?
l do give him a few treats but he walks around the place with me.
So how can l determine if my dog is overweight or just a little plump?
At the Dog Chiropractic & Therapy Centre, the first & foremost priority is the diet & the amount to feed.
The second priority is structurally sound, especially the neck along with the back.
Thirdly, the exercise required to maintain a healthy dog.
The right balance, type & amount of food is very important for a healthy dog.
Our dogs have to be healthy so as their weight can be controlled.
If the dog is in good health then exercise can be considered.
l do suggest that you compare a raw natural diet to a cooked or a dry diet.
If the Dogs food intake is of a healthy product the Dog utilises the nutritional value to the optimum.
Healthy eating is for the future benefit to the Dogs healthy life.

If the dog has been Desexed, this effects the weight of the dog. The shape in the abdomen area can slightly change. A desexed dog has to be fed a little differently to an entire dog as now the dogs hormones alter & the metabolism of the dog changes.
The exercise we give plays a part also, (but l walk my dog ). How far do you walk & at what pace? How many sniffs or other stops do we have?
Have you really changed the dogs heart rate & if so for how long. Some people run their dogs for a period of time but forget to give the dog a cool down period.
l often hear,” My dog seems lame or stiff after having a sleep, but after a while is a little better.”
After some physical exercise the dog must be walked for awhile to release the acid build up within the dog.
Exercising your dog must be gradually built to a set amount then maintained with variation. Keep your dog guessing when it walks, runs or which way you are going etc.
